Clear Aligners

What are Clear Aligners?

Clear aligners are a custom made orthodontic device that is used to help realign a patient’s teeth. Unlike braces which are fixed onto teeth through cementation, the clear aligners are  clear and removable, appearing more aesthetic throughout the duration of the treatment.

Clear aligners are custom made for each patient with a computer using digital scans and impressions. These liners can be removed to help do things like eat, brush, and floss and to avoid damage to the actual device. The removable nature of clear aligners increases quality of preventative care by forgoing the placement of orthodontic brackets, which block accessibility during daily cleaning. This reduces post-treatment cavities and staining, improving overall dental health.

Another major benefit of clear aligners is the aesthetic appeal. Invisalign liners are clear, maintaining the natural appearance of teeth throughout the alignment process. Patients may feel more confident and comfortable wearing invisalign instead of traditional orthodontic brackets. If you are worried about the stigma that can be associated with traditional braces, clear aligners may present itself as an attractive treatment option.

Clear aligners are indicated in patients who have mild crowding, overbites, or misalignment. Currently, Invisalign is unable to correct malocclusions originating from arch misalignment or size. However as the technology of clear aligners improves, greater and greater adjustments can be made. Please don’t be afraid to schedule a consultation to see if Invisalign is an option that works for you.

What are Clear Aligners?

The procedure to receive Invisalign alignment liners is simple and painless. After a consultation with Dr. Wang, custom liners will be created using molds of your teeth. Invisalign liners will be swapped out about every two weeks until realignment is complete, usually lasting 6 to 18 months depending on patient compliance. After alignment is completed, use of a retainer is needed to maintain the new alignment of teeth.
