A dental implant is a screw-type device that can be inserted into your jawbone, which will then fuse with that bone and make a strong base for artificial teeth, caps, and crowns.
What is a Dental Implant?
When you lose a tooth as an adult, that tooth will not grow back. This space in your teeth can cause issues and simply not look as good as you’d like. To fix this, Dr. Lisa Wang can install a dental implant into your mouth. A dental implant is a screw-type device that can be inserted into your jawbone, which will then fuse with that bone and make a strong base for artificial teeth, caps, and crowns. On top of the dental implant sits a connector which allows the false tooth to be held and supported by your new dental implant.
Why do you need a Dental Implant?
Leaving extra space in your mouth from missing teeth can lead to serious health complications and cosmetic issues. In some cases, this can lead to jawbone deterioration. A dental implant actually helps prevent that deterioration and promotes new bone growth. A dental implant is the strongest way to replace teeth and will last much longer than a dental bridge or dentures. On the cosmetic side, you will have a more beautiful smile and feel great about it with a full set of teeth.

What makes you a good candidate for a Dental Implant?
A good candidate for a dental implant is in decent oral health. As a dental implant has to be attached to the jawbone, the patient must have enough bone available to support the dental implant. It is also recommended that you have somewhat healthy gums that are free from things like periodontal disease.
What happens during the procedure for a Dental Implant?
In some cases, a patient may be asked to do a little pre-op work. These are simple things such as rinsing with special mouthwash and taking antibiotics prior to surgery. After being numbed thoroughly, your bone will be exposed using a small incision in the gums where the implant is to be placed. A quit drill will be used to create a spot in the bone for the implant to actually be fit in. A second visit will work on creating your dental crown.
